To support researchers and clinicians in using our system, BrainSonix provides a Quality Assurance (QA) Testerdevice. This is a companion tool that allows users to verify the output of the BX Pulsar 1002 and transducer in a quick and straightforward way, without the need for specialized laboratory equipment (like water tanks or hydrophones). The QA Tester can be thought of as a portable ultrasound measurement reference. Before a study session or at scheduled intervals, an operator can use the QA Tester to check that the transducer is delivering the expected pressure and intensity for a given set of parameters. For example, one might place the transducer against the QA Tester’s sensor, run a test pulse sequence, and confirm that the measured acoustic output matches what the console’s settings indicate.

Our QA Tester is calibrated to work in tandem with the system’s internal calibration files – effectively serving as an independent cross-check. If there were any deviation (say, due to a faulty cable or wear on the transducer), the QA test would flag an inconsistency in output, prompting the user to contact us for further calibration or service. This gives extra confidence that what you set is what you get during experiments. The tester provides immediate feedback and is designed to be user-friendly so that it can be part of a routine check (much like how one might perform a phantom scan to QA an MRI machine or run a calibration on a TMS coil before use). Maintaining consistent output is critical in research to ensure reproducibility and in clinical settings to ensure safety; the QA Tester helps achieve this by making it easy to regularly validate the system’s performance. By removing the need for extensive acoustic lab setups, it saves our users time and complexity, while upholding the highest quality standards for the BrainSonix platform.
