We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Gregory A. Fonzo for receiving the prestigious One Mind Baszucki Brain Research Fund Rising Star Award, recognizing his innovative work advancing neuroscience and psychiatric treatment discovery. Dr. Fonzo’s research bridges breakthrough clinical science and real-world impact. A licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, he investigates the neurobiological mechanisms of mood and affective disorders and works to translate that understanding into novel treatment tools.
A key part of this work involves non-invasive neuromodulation with LIFUP, technology at the heart of BrainSonix’s mission. Dr. Fonzo and his collaborators are using the BrainSonix BXPulsar 1002 LIFUP system to probe how focused ultrasound can safely and precisely modulate deep brain circuits implicated in mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders.
Early clinical studies demonstrate the potential of this approach to reach subcortical targets like the amygdala non-invasively and with high spatial focus. His recognition as a Rising Star underscores both his leadership in translational brain research and the promise of focused ultrasound neuromodulation to transform psychiatric care.
BSX applauds Dr. Fonzo’s achievements and looks forward to continued collaboration as LIFUP moves toward broader clinical impact.
